Equine CranioSacral Therapy: EcoSomatics Equine™

These courses have been developed for Equine Healthcare Professionals to

learn to palpate the subtleties and nuances of the horse’s body, thereby

facilitating the discovery of the root cause of the presenting complaint.

Skilful palpation of the CranioSacral system and Fascial Matrix provides

often otherwise undiscovered sources of dysfunction in the horse which

may be creating undiagnosed and perplexing lameness and/or behaviour

issues. Of particular interest is the evaluation and treatment of the

horse’s head and face.

Past participants include (but not limited to): Veterinarians,

Equine Chiropractors & Osteopaths, Equine Physiotherapists,

Equine Massage Therapists, Equine Bodyworkers, and Equine Hoof Care

providers (Farriers/Blacksmiths/Podiotherapists).

The classes are also open to CranioSacral Therapists wishing to have direct

experiential contact with equines to expand their knowledge and skills in

offering CranioSacral Therapy as a healing bodywork modality.

Non-equine professionals must have prior horse handling experience

and a solid foundation of knowledge of horses from a science based perspective.

CranioSacral Therapy is often mislabeled or misinterpreted as a type of energy work. We are all electromagnetic beings, and horses often move each other within the herd with energy, yet rest assured that the techniques offered in this curriculum are tissue based, from an anatomy & physiology, neuroanatomy & neurophysiology, as well as biomechanics foundation.

Participants are guided and encouraged to not only deepen their awareness of the tissue being palpated in their hands, but to deepen their understanding of how the tissue imbalances affect the overall health and well being of the horse.

The best way to appreciate the benefits of Equine CranioSacral Therapy is to Experience Equus - what it is to be (a) horse.

Once we establish connection through blending and melding with the tissues in hand, a therapeutic rapport of trust is established, allowing the opportunity to experience ''what is'' from the horse’s perspective. As we engage with the inner workings of the horse, we become open to new ways of ''seeing'' and discovering the underlying source of dysfunction and imbalance, which may be the cause of unwanted behaviours and/or abnormal movement patterns. Our connection with the CranioSacral System and the body’s fascia allows us to facilitate a session of self-correction and rebalancing of body, mind, and spirit in the horse.

These workshops provide an opportunity to understand the horse’s body, both statically and dynamically, as well as the horse’s behaviours, both wanted and unwanted, from a science based perspective, thereby enhancing our non-verbal communication skills, expanding our understanding of the intricacies of connection in the horse’s body and mind, in addition to learning CranioSacral techniques for equines.

CranioSacral Therapy evolved from Cranial Osteopathy, following the discoveries and experiences of Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, M.D., Dr. William Sutherland, D.O. and Dr. John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M.

It is the hope of these courses to facilitate learning of the science behind the techniques in a balanced blend with the art of exploratory palpation in offering this incredible therapeutic modality to horses.

Please look at the course content for each level for further information.
